For families

Wrongful death, for the family

When someone is killed by another’s carelessness, the family can bring a claim. We do the work of it.

No claim makes up for a person. What it can do is pay for the funeral, replace income the family relied on, and hold the driver, company or owner to account. The law decides who can bring the claim, often through the estate, and the rules differ between Washington and Idaho. We explain them in plain words, deal with every insurer and court filing, and keep the family informed without asking more of you than we must.

We handle

  • Fatal car and truck crashes

  • Deaths after falls on unsafe property

  • Pedestrians and cyclists killed by drivers

  • Opening the estate when there isn’t one

What we take off the family’s hands

  • The calls

Insurers, adjusters and investigators speak to us, not to you.

  • The estate

If a personal representative is needed, we explain the role and handle the filing.

  • The timeline

We send a short update every month, even when the news is that nothing has changed.

Questions families ask us

Who can bring a wrongful death claim?

It depends on the state and on the family: usually a spouse, children or parents, often through the estate’s personal representative. We’ll sort out who that is at the first meeting.

What does the claim cover?

It can cover funeral and medical costs, the income and support the person would have provided, and the loss of their company and care. What applies depends on the state and the family.

Is there a deadline?

Yes, and it can be shorter than people expect, especially if a government vehicle or road is involved. Call when you’re ready, but don’t wait too long.

Do we have to go to court?

Most claims settle without a trial. If one needs to go to court, we’ll explain why and what you’d be asked to do before anything is filed.

No recovery, no attorney’s fee. Case costs such as records, filing fees and experts are separate: we advance them, and your written fee agreement says whether you repay them if the case doesn’t recover.
