Injuries
Hurt on icy or unsafe property
A fall isn’t always a claim. When the owner knew and did nothing, it is.
Winter here means ice on every walkway for months. Property owners know that, and most salt and shovel. When a store, landlord or business leaves a walkway glazed, a stair broken or a spill on the floor long enough that they should have known, they can be responsible for what follows. We’ll tell you honestly at the first meeting whether yours is one of those.
We handle
Falls on ice and snow outside businesses
Broken stairs and missing railings
Wet floors and spills in stores
Potholes and poor lighting in parking lots
Injuries at rentals and apartment buildings

Write these down while you remember
Where, exactly
The door, the aisle, the step. A photo of the spot, even taken days later, helps.
Who you told
The manager’s name, any incident report, and anyone who saw you fall.
What you wore
Keep the shoes and the coat. Insurers ask about them every time.

Questions after a fall
I fell on ice. Isn’t that just winter?
Sometimes. Owners aren’t expected to keep every inch bare during a storm. But a walkway left untreated for days, or a gutter that drips onto the same spot every night, is a different story.
The store says it wasn’t their fault. Should I still call?
Yes. They nearly always say that at first. What matters is what they knew, and that’s in their records, not their first answer.
Can I claim if I fell at a friend’s house?
Possibly, through their homeowner’s insurance, which exists for this. Many people worry about hurting the friendship; we handle it with the insurer, not your friend.
How soon should I see a doctor?
Right away, even if it seems minor. A record made the same week is the best proof of what the fall did.
