How it works

How a case moves

Most injury cases follow the same five steps. Here’s what happens in each, and what we’ll ask of you.

  1. 01

Step 1: A free first meeting

In an office, by phone, by video or at your bedside. Bring what you have; we’ll tell you plainly whether we can help.

  2. 02

Step 2: Paperwork and a letter

You sign a written fee agreement. We tell the insurers to talk to us and the other side to keep its evidence.

  3. 03

Step 3: You heal, we build the file

You keep your appointments. We collect records, bills, wage losses and photos as they come in.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The demand

Once your doctors know where your recovery will settle, we send the insurer a full demand and negotiate.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Settlement, or court

Most cases settle. If the offer isn’t fair, we’ll explain filing a lawsuit before anything happens. Either way, you see every number before you sign.

What you pay, and when

The first meeting is free. If we take your case, our fee is a percentage of what we recover, written in the agreement you sign. If there is no recovery, there is no attorney’s fee.

Case costs are separate from the fee: medical records, filing fees, experts and the like. We advance them as the case goes. Your agreement says how they’re repaid from a recovery, and whether you would owe them if the case doesn’t recover. We go over that line with you before you sign.

While your case is open

How often will I hear from you?

At least once a month, by phone, text or email, whichever you prefer. You can always call your lawyer directly.

Who pays my medical bills while I wait?

Usually your own health insurance or the medical coverage on your auto policy, at first. We help sort the order and deal with any liens at the end.

Should I post about the crash online?

Better not. Insurers read social media. Keep it private until the case is closed.

How long will it take?

Simple cases can settle in months; serious ones take longer, because we wait to know the full extent of your injuries. We’ll give you an honest estimate and update it.
